The best camps have cats!
I went camping this past weekend in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. I'll do a full write up later, but I wanted to very quickly share my favorite type of camp host - kitties!
I mentioned in my New Mexico story that the KOA in Carlsbad had little cabins for cats abandoned in the desert. Those adorable little guys made the place cozy.
The HipCamp I stayed at this past weekend had a friendly host cat who hung out around the communal cooking and dish area. This burly black cat announced himself with a sweet meow and came bounding for pets and scratches every time I walked down there.
His name is Lunar.
I don't actually know if Lunar is male or female? I didn't check, and it doesn't really matter for a cat.
The son of the HipCamp host said if Lunar gained any more weight, he'd name him Fat Biscuit, which doesn't really help with sexing the cat. Or maybe he used male pronouns with Lunar? I honestly don't remember.
When I got home after three days of camping, my cat Bit followed me around constantly. She had a little bit of a health scare last weekend, so she has been more attached to me than usual - and she was already bonded closer to me than any one else. She was never more than eight or so feet away the night I got back. She even climbed onto my shoulder, which she doesn't do any more.
My other cat, Ridge, threw a tantrum because of my audacity, but said hello once he settled down.
